The Serfers Release New Song: “Rat King”

The opening vocals of “Rat King” by The Serfers has that sort of emo punk / pop punk sound followed by some solid distorted guitar riffage that is punctuated with hits on the clean channel that add a cool counterpoint. This is definitely punk in its roots, but its also got elements of grunge and post-hardcore. I really love the how there’s this dope rock riff that just smacks before it goes into this really cool mellow melodic part that with . When everything drops out and it’s just the guitar doing it’s thing it goes on just long enough to make it feel a little uncomfortable which I loved because it created this tension that really had me paying attention. Like the long pause in “Waiting Room” by Fugazi.
