Need the Perfect Soundtrack for Bike Week? Modern Day Outlaw’s “Devilscorned” is it!

By Mr. P

When I saw the album imagery for Modern Day Outlaw’s album Through the Gates of Hell, my first thought was this is going to be some raunchy motorcycle club kick ass rock n’ roll of the type that I would hear on the soundtracks for episodes of Sons of Anarchy or The Mayans, and I was totally correct! Right from the opening riff of “Devilscorned” into the wrenching scream, I could tell this would be a scorcher. There are aspects of it that remind me of Pantera’s Cowboy from Hell album, but I’d most closely relate it to Zakk Wylde’s band, Black Label Society, a band  I could totally see these dudes opening for.

The verses have that gruff rock and metal delivery on the verses with solid melodies in the chorus that make this an anthemic rocker that you can scream along to and sing along to. The double bass maintains the drive throughout which is why I feel it’d fit in a rad scene on Sons of Anarchy or The Mayans…maybe a ride through the desert on the open roads or a knock down drag out bar fight.

The song has two killer guitar solos, you know the type where people run up to the stage and flick their lighters to show that the solo is hot or wave their fingers as they drop to their knees in front of the player to demonstrate that it’s a blazing solo.

Hailing from Florida, where I just moved away from, these dudes and I definitely traveled in different circles down there. I was more in the hardcore punk scene, with some divergences into metal particularly with bands like No Coffin or Moat Cobra. But I could see how their mix of blues, metal, and country could fit them on any bill that likes to rock.
