Red Kate Release New Single, “Home of the Slave”!

When I was 16 in 1992, I picked up these two comps on tape: Faster Louder Hardcover Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 with bands like D.O.A., M.D.C., DYS (No they weren’t all acronym bands) , The Subhumans (Canada), Zero Boys, and more—you can look the albums up on Discogs if you want to know the rest. Anyway…the point of my intro is that this band would fit right on that comp. It’s got that 80’s hardcore punk sound and the lyrical topic fits right there with D.O.A., M.D.C. and The Subhumans (either of them).

The former history teacher in me appreciates their lyrical grasp of the long-term effects of slavery and the genocide of the indigenous and more.

It is beyond obvious that this band has their heart, soul and purpose in the right place. Not only do they recognize that our nation was built on the backs of enslaved people but they also operate as a band non-profit co-operative record label which is really rad, and they are the sort of label I’d love to possibly collaborate with in the future.
