Nolen & Friends Release New Single: “Sailboat Song”

What is the line between folk music and folk punk? Does it matter? Folk often has told stories that are true to life and punk has always been about sharing what you feel to the fullest. So much like I’ve argued that a lot of hip hop is as punk as the most circle pit worthy song, so is so much of recent folk music that fits the punk ethos if not the standardized sound.

This borders more on the folky side like Pete Seeger or Woody Guthrie, and that is not meant as a negative since I love both. The lyrics are powerful and touching, and require multiple listens to absorb the full impact of their meaning. Musically it’s the sort of music that I’d love to be enjoying while sitting around a camp fire drinking bourbon or whiskey with plans to wake up the next day to make the world a somewhat better place somewhere somehow. I feel like this could have been on the Ween country album.

If you dig well crafted songs with lyrics that are meant to touch the core of your soul, then give this a half dozen listens.

As someone who releases live album on vinyl, I suggest starting with this live song:

Check them out on Spotify and/or on my (folk) punk playlist

Follow their socials: IG , FB, and TikTok
