I love ska, and I love it more when its mixed with other eclectic styles like when I recently reviewed and did a podcast for Satanic Puppeteer Orchestra’s new ska album.

Mega Infinity’s new EP, Chaos Magick, fits that bill. It blends ska, metal, punk, electronic, hip-hop, prog rock and more!

The first sone and title track, “Chaos Magick” starts almost like an 1990s indie song but then heavy rock/punk guitars come in followed by ska with horn magic joining the mix. I hear the chaos of the mix of genres but also the magick of their mixture. The song is well crafted and the vocals are powerful and instantly catchy.

The next song, “Dude Poisoning”, makes me feel like I’m jamming to a hip-hop and ska inspired Ke$ha song. The lyrics are funning and biting. The addition of rad electronic parts and what I think were guest vocals just past the halfway point bring a different flow and feel during the song that was really fun.

“Look Alive” continues the mix of genres with synth sounds and garage rock mixed in with the ska. It’s hard to catch all the different sounds and influences that I’m hearing in each song because I just keep enjoying it so much that I keep forgetting to analyze it .

The final song is a cover of Alanis Morrisette’s “You Oughta Know” which since I was in high school when this came out, makes me an instant fan. The ska remix works so well. It’s like it should have always been that way.

Check them out on Spotify too or on my ska playlist full of the bast songs to skank too!
