Rebels in Stereo’s Newest Single an Anthem for Survivors and Thrivers!

Maybe it’s the former middle school teacher in me or the father of two teens that made me connect with this song right away. I don’t have the full story, nor do I think I need to in order to feel the emotion of the song. From the song and the press release, I know that the singer’s cousin was attacked and “had to fight for her life” and during her recovery lost her mother. And yet this 15 year old managed to push through and thrive. This song is in her honor. I share this because I dug the song at first listen without any context, but with context it’s the sort of song I hope my daughters would rock out to while hoping that they avoid the same strife. With that being said, I also hope that they’d handle it as well as Lacey.

As I like to do, I found a live video of this song, and I felt the energy and passion which is what matters most. Many a band can record in a studio, but to be able to bring it live…that’s the key for me.

Holy hell…my search for live content found this dope ass acoustic song! I love when punk or metal goes acoustic (Check out DCxPC Live Vol. 8 ann beretta Live Like a Riot - Acoustic), and the video below was just too rad not to mention.

In the end, this is one of those bands that doesn’t sit squarely in one space. I was immediately interested when I saw the Anthrax t-shirt, but the band isn’t thrash metal. They have a clear influence of punk, pop punk and melodic metal. I’m sure they struggle as much as my old band, Call in Dead. We were always the heaviest punk band or the lightest metal band. In other words, we didn’t fit squarely, and neither do Rebels in Stereo.

My brother lives in Chicago, so I’ll definitely strive to see them when I visit him next time.

I’d also like to say this is a band that I’d dig doing a live album for if they are interested.
