Ricky Rochelle Releases New 7”: “Cannibal Island Resort”

For those of you familiar with The Young Rochelles ,you’ll immediately get that Ricky Rochelle’s newest release, Cannibal Island Resort, is Ricky’s tribute to that classic piece of Ramonescore released 10 years ago by The Young Rochelles i.e. Cannibal Island.

Ricky has been rocking out and releasing his solo work as punk’s favorite singing drummer, sorry Mikey Erg, since 2021. This is his third release, and it smokes.

“Cannibal Corpse Resort” - This song opens with a tight and fast snare roll and the goes into a rad ass pop punk tune with lyrics that are humorous as fuck and so damn catchy you’ll be humming them during sex, and if you have the right partner, they’ll appreciate it.

“S.L.O.T.H.X” - This one is a bit more aggressive and musically and sounds like when Dee Dee or CJ would sing on a Ramones song (Did I really have to mention The Ramones? You should have known who Dee Dee and CJ sometimes sung for). Maybe its the drummer in me, but I dug that short but sweet drum intro too. I could be totally wrong, but it’s like the song is about a sloth that has gone through what Wolverine aka Weapon X went through but with titanium claws instead of adamantium. I have to say I love the nah nah nah nah at around the 1 minute mark as well. Solid ass fucking song.

“Mommy’s Dirty Laundry” - Something about this song just feels so twisted. Maybe it’s the use of mommy which really implies a small child or an adult that needs some emotional growth. Like the first two songs, it’s catchy as fuck plus there’s a bridge that harkens back to what might be played in a kid’s nursery which, while unexpected, really adds that extra layer of what the fuck to the song.

“Ugly Afterlife” - What is life in hell like? Sit back and let Ricky tell you. Don’t get thrown off by the dope guitar riffs and the smooth catchy vocals that you just want to sing along too, the lyrics do not paint a picture of fun or happiness, but then it is hell after all, no?
