Mark Vennis & Different Place Release New Single: “Small Town Vampire”

The second I hit play on “Small Town Vampire” by Mark Vennis and Different Place, I was taken back to 1992 when I bought a two tape punk rock compilation with bands like The Vibrators, The Buzzcocks, The Members, The Adverts, etc. This band’s mix of brit pop with 70’s punk rock would have fit right in on those compilations. Interestingly enough they are doing a tour with The Members, so that tracks.

The story-telling nature of the song's lyrics remind me of Social Distortion, Tim Barry and Johnny Cash. From what I can tell it’s all about feeling like your blood is being sucked out of you by the small town that you feel stuck in which I’m sure any number of people still living in such towns and those that have managed to escape can understand.

This is a rad new discovery, and if you get a chance to see them on tour, I’d not miss it.

Check out their song on Spotify and on my Punk Playlist
