From the intro filled with heavily distorted fuzzy guitar that any stoner metal fan would love to their final track, “Wither” with its sick leads layered on top of the fuzz, these dudes bring the rock. Their second track, “Riot”, is my favorite. The fuzzy guitar harkens back to The Melvins or Kyus or Clutch or to more recent bands like Weedeater. The vocals are nasty and gritty in all the ways that feel good to my metal loving ears. Drums and bass lock into a great groove especially during the wah heavy guitar solo that crescendos with a throaty wail. When the song ends, I find myself wishing there was more even though the punk rocker in me almost always prefers shorter songs.

As aforementioned the album ends with “Wither” which opens with a great fuzzed out bass. It actually reminds me of the sound and riff that opened Forever Dead by Call in Dead.  The fuzz is overlaid with a kick ass clean guitar lead that creates a great counterpoint to the dirtiness of the heavily distorted bass. This six minute plus mid-tempo dirge kept me listening with now desire to skip ahead, no mean feat since as I said, I tend to prefer shorter, faster hardcore punk style songs.

I can just see myself slowly banging my head, drinking my $3 beer and music just wash over me while watching the band through the thin smoke filling the room in a bar that technically doesn’t allow smoking even though it is somehow filled with the smoke of weed, and I know that I’m having one of those moment where there is no place else I’d rather be.

These stoner rock doom metal dudes hail from Easthampton, MA which is only like 70 miles from me, so hopefully I’ll get to catch them soon or maybe we’ll play a show together if they don’t mind playing a mixed bill with a punk band.

If you get a chance to catch them live, I’d strongly encourage it. I know I'll be there front and center when I get the chance.
