Goddamn Wolves Release New Single: “Intervention”

Raleigh’s Gooddamn Wolves’s new single, “Intervention”, takes me back to the 1990’s with their mix of indie rock and pop punk that reminds me something that I would have heard on Subpop Records back in the day. Maybe a mix between Gumball, The Lemonheads and The Vaselines?

Everything in this song is a tribute to people knowing how to be a good band member. The guitar riffs, main vocals, backing harmonies all work with each other to create a soundscape that is held together by a drummer and bassist that know how to support the song while adding flourishes when needed. For example, the bassist fills out the bottom end without too much flourish during most of the song, but then they bring at moments where it matters. That bass line before Laura takes over main vocals is perfect along with the other dope walking lines throughout the song. The drumming isn’t quite as austere as drumming on a Ramones song, but it feels like they’ve listened to a lot of Replacement records, so they know how to play for the song and add fills to compliment the song.

Speaking of Laura’s vocals, from what I read having Laura bring their vocals to bear more on the song is a newer innovation, and I’m all for it. Not just for the backing vocals, but for the really nice contrast their voice brings when they take over main vocals.

Give a listen on their Bandcamp and buy shit if you dig it:
