Sweden’s Pressure Release New EP: Heroes Will Fall

Epic fucking metal with melodic and powerful female vocals on an EP told from the point of view of a demon.

This Swedish group has been bringing their version of metal since 2018, and this release is the best I’ve heard thus far.

The EP opens with “Demonic Oath”, with a tribal drum beat and some demonic utterances and heavy use of the China crash cymbal. The vocals kick in with force and are matched in their ferocity by the heavy riffage and dramatic rhythm section. Love the harmonics of the guitar lead/solo towards the end.

It’s 5am as I’m writing this, so I have to listen to “Metal Morning” next. The drummer in me can’t help but love the double bass work. I also appreciate the bit of “growl” or “roughness” in her vocals here. Oh damn, there’s that rad melodic guitar lead followed by a full on solo that just melts your face off. This group vocals at the end with the call and response is really fucking catchy.

Let’s close out the review with their closing track “My Old Dagger” which opens with sampled fights sounds and then switches everything up by opening with male vocals that not only have that aggressive edge, they are also able to get that epic sound and take the vocals high a la Bruce Dickinson. The story telling nature of the song is more evidence and the vocal phrasing almost gives off a folk song type of delivery. The song is slower than the others, but no less kick ass.

Definitely a rad as fuck band.
