LIINES Release New Single: “Holding On”

LIINES’ newest single, “Holding on,” is a gripping song with a plethora of wonderful nuances that had me locked in throughout the whole song.

It starts with this gnarly bass intro and sadly beautiful guitar lead supported by drums that know how to fit the song in just the right way. Then the verse drops the guitar for a bit and allows the plaintive sounding vocals to provide an emotional counterpoint to the distorted bass. And as I sit there getting pulled into their pain and anguish they bring in the guitar distortion with a distortion sound that is akin to bands like Oceanator.

The soft to loud is there but it’s more subtle than in more aggressive bands known for this pattern i.e. Nirvana or Fugazi. But that subtleness makes it all the more compelling.

The bridge with the gentle, almost whistle like, singing with the guitar lead is just amazing.

I love how it ends with just the guitar and that haunting vocal melody.

I could say this is for fans of Sleater-Kinney, Big Joanie, Joy Division, Pixies, etc. but everyone should dig this.
