DCxPC Gets Live…& Dead with Necrotic Society Volume 2

By Audio Mirage

I don’t know about you, but I am having a grand ol’ time with all the great music coming out in 2024 already (DCxPC has something to deal with this)! It seems like there is all sorts of inspiration in the artistic air lately. I’ve written several reviews so far and have a “b line,” so to speak, on a lot of things coming out in the near future. I know, I read the headlines too, there’s plenty of existential dread to be had about 2024, but the music being made is entirely on the opposite end of that spectrum. Case and point, the latest from DCxPC Live featuring NYC’s Necrotic Society, a feminist hardcore band that possesses just the right energy and spirit needed to get through this zany year.

The band’s sound is a fury – driving music that reminds me of the brashness of D.R.I, a punk ethos like War on Women, and an aggressive vocal style that reminds me of the heavier stuff by L7. I highly recommend this record for fans of those bands and/or if your musical palate craves a straight up east coast hardcore punk sound.

This record is officially the second volume in a vinyl series the label introduced last year called “Live & Dead.” ICYMI – the “live” side of the album is pretty self-explanatory, a live performance, and on the “dead” side of the record are studio recordings of the band. Pre-orders have concluded this week, so get to DCxPC Live ASAP to grab up some limited vinyl! They usually only press a couple hundred copies of each release. So, get them while you can!

The lead off single from the record is a violently fast and thrashy song track called “Perimeter.” The drumming is insane on it, like something from Slayer’s “Undisputed Attitude,” it rocks hard. It’s heavy in sound and heavy in subject matter. Clocking in at just one minute, that’s all that’s needed to amazingly say so much. It’s a song about gun violence, and in particular – the disturbing phenomenon we’ve unfortunately become all too familiar with- school shootings. To quote the band:

“Americans like to pretend that we have no way of solving problems that are self-created, self-inflicted. But then when we fail to take any action or put in the slightest effort as a society to keep terrible things like mass shootings from happening, we still somehow have the audacity to act surprised, to act like there’s just no way this entirely preventable thing could’ve been prevented. This song was a way of channeling frustration with that mindset.”

Currently, you need to buy the record or support it on Bandcamp to hear the entire album at this time. However, “Perimeter,” as a single is available for streaming on Spotify HERE.

Described by the label as a “political hardcore band that takes no prisoners,” Necrotic Society wastes no time teeing up to that, kicking off the record and kicking your arse right away with the song “Manifest” before proceeding to seismically liberate you with “Break your chains / Torn to Shreds” and “First World Problems” (love the guitar work on that track, some riffing reminiscent to me of Black Flag.) Such a kick ass performance on Side A. The record only gets better and better all the way through. I love the dead side. The self-titled song “Necrotic Society” is possibly my favorite song on the whole record but “Leftist Plague” certainly makes the case too in my opinion.
