Punk Rock Mag Reviews DCxPC Live Vol. 13 Degenerates of Punk

As you already know, DCXPC is one of the coolest DIY labels in Florida, working hard with a lot of underground punk bands, making rad live releases on vinyl; today we had on our hands Vol.13 with a punk and roll band new for us from Massachusettes (which remembers me that cool band Funeral Oration); named Degenerates of Punk, recorded at Ralph’s Rock Diner in Rhode Island.

Metal Asylum Reviews DCxPC Live Vol. 13 Degenerates of Punk Live

The guitars are hard and very fast, as is the drumming, which oozes bundles of punk energy, and the basslines are strong and solid. Being a live album, the listener can hear the energy coming from the band through the speakers, really making them think they are there in the room with them.

DCxPC Presents Degenerates Of Punk Vol 13 Live At Ralph’s Rock Diner

Posted on May 30, 2023

DCxPC is a collaboration that books and releases music from live shows for multiple bands and Volume 13 presented Degenerates Of Punk Live At Ralph’s Rock Diner. It was released on 19/05/2023 and is one of many that I have now reviewed by DCxPC.

Degenerates Of Punk formed in 2019, consisting of members Jimmy West Jr on guitar and vocals, Sparrow Cat on bass and vocals and Bobby Forand on drums and vocals, hail from Massachusetts, USA, and have been called “New England’s best Ramonescore band!”

The album has twelve songs, the longest no more than 2 minutes and 50 seconds and has a typical punk rock sound.

The guitars are hard and very fast, as is the drumming, which oozes bundles of punk energy, and the basslines are strong and solid. Being a live album, the listener can hear the energy coming from the band through the speakers, really making them think they are there in the room with them.

The vocals, undertaken by all three members, are raw and shouty, just as any good punk bands vocals should be and accompanying each other with back-ups that are in much the same vein, this really creates a brutal sound.

I can imagine the crowd at this gig, jumping around to this, and this is the effect it really should have on the listener. If you are not pogoing around by track three are you really a punk rock fan?

This is a great album that really shows the listener just what this band is about….and that is in your face punk rock!! With the sound and energy of early punk and the technicalities of modern-day punk this really is a band that should appeal to punk fans, old and new!

Check out Degenerates Of Punk and their music to see what you think about them and while you are at it check out other releases by DCxPC! You will definitely not be disappointed by either!

Degenerates of Punk lead the way with their innovative punk rock sound. The band brings an electrifying charge to their DCxPC Live performance, and if I were in the crowd, I’d be enthralled to the very core. They performed an abundance of fast-paced rock songs that are filled with sensational riffs, and a commanding vocal presence. Altogether with a thunderous presence on the drums, Degenerates of Punk show us their rocker spirit with an epic show.

DCxPC Live Presents Vol. 13: Degenerates of Punk: Review

Degenerates of Punk lead the way with their innovative punk rock sound. They performed an abundance of fast-paced rock songs that are filled with sensational riffs, and a commanding vocal presence. Altogether with a thunderous presence on the drums, Degenerates of Punk show us their rocker spirit with an epic show.

Back in the old days, the rebellious timbres of punk rock motivated the youth to be an unapologetic version of themselves. I’m glad that message is still alive today, for Degenerates of Punk truly exhibits a fascinating show with each of their songs, and it’s tough not to feel young again with their evocative melodies. From tracks such as “Marianne” to “Always Happens,” this fine punk rock band swifts across the stage with heavy guitars drenched in liberating vocals. Each statement feels right out of the books of rebel poetry, and it’s a natural essence to headbang and move in a frenzy while hearing the Degenerates of Punk.

If you’re a fan of energetic rock music, especially one that never stops its percussive flow, then the music of Degenerates of Punk should be right up your alley. Their performance at Ralph’s Rock Diner was simply soul-stirring. Thus, it excites me to hear punk rock’s aura is still alive and kicking in the modern day.

It's always nice to find and shed light on musical productions that were able to give comfort when we were going through a period of serious pandemic of COVID-19. It is the case of this new title of the group Degenerates of Punk which is called “Marianne” and which is a nice surprise; an opportunity for them and for us to give them more visibility and once again bring their musical work to life.

Indeed, if we return to this artistic masterpiece, it is necessarily because there is something quite remarkable and striking in this explosive tube. They always have this crazy feeling of wanting to destroy everything when they are on stage. This group transmits through its musicality a ball of powerful energy which captivates you throughout the album, so noisy that we cannot clearly perceive the vocal expression of the main singer.

With catchy melodies, I assure you that we already have the perfect atmosphere to enjoy our moments of madness with friends. Well-structured and intense arrangements in which we can enjoy a warm atmosphere, marked by monstrous sound vibrations. Get ready to follow them!

Degenerates of Punk rescues essence of live punk show in new album

Biro Ramoniko

Are you a little tired of the pausterized sound that rock and roll, including what you call current pop punk, that the industry has provided? Do you miss something more visceral, somewhat sarcastic and that really represents the roots of a style created over 50 years ago?

Well, here's Degenerates of Punk, an American group that delivers the essence of punk rock, without making it sound dated and even adding light doses of irreverence to their sound. They have just released a live album, where the rough, the rustic join melody and simple chords, with a lot of energy.

This is “DCxPC Live Vol. 13 Presents Degenerates of Punk Live at Lou's", recorded live at Ralph's Rock Diner. In it twelve tracks are distilled in the most aggressive and relaxed way, where the punk inspired by Ramones, Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols, with light current touches is distilled without parsimony.

The coolest thing is that the record was captured in the most faithful way possible, describing the show within reality, with its dirty guitars, straight kitchen and stripped vocals. An oasis amid so much prefab stuff!

Degenerates of Punk (DOP) of New England, were founded in 2019 by Jimmy West and Bill Huther. Sparrow Cat was next to join the group at bass and Paulie Paradox on drums shortly thereafter. Jimmy and Sparrow are the remaining founding members now joined by Adam APE and Bobby Forand splitting drum duties.

The band’s gang vocal melodies have an East Coast vibe that makes me think of bands like Rancid while at the same time are so catchy it reminds me of Skate Punk tendencies of bands like Pennywise. The band also cites Screeching Weasel as a direct influence, and I think a lot of that comes through in their writing as well.

Degenerates of Punk are active members of the New England punk scene and maintain working relationships with other bands that they refer to as “a large extended family.” Calling out specifically “sibling” bands such as The Frenzy of Tongs, Jimmy West Band, The McGunks, Pint Killers, and The Somethin’ Somethings. And just like my wacky family, there are too many cousins to account for! Another cool notch on DOP’s belt is that they were nominated for Motif Magazine’s 2022 Breakthrough Act last year.

As with every DCxPC release all pre-orders within the first week are entered into a raffle to win a VML Live Album!

The record in an energetic 12-song set played by the band that kicks your butt start to finish. From old school rocking vibes like the opener “Tommy and Geo” to pop punk and surf punk sentiments in “This Time Alone” to the anthemic “whoas” in Same Old Songs,” I can picture pogoing and slam dancing throughout the night at a DOP show.

Degenerates of Punk are:

  • Jimmy West -Vocals, Guitar

  • Sparrow Cat – Bass,Vocals

  • Bobby Forand – Drums,Vocals

  • Adam APE – Drums

MAY 19, 2023

The DCxPC live community has been firing on all cylinders for a while now. Since their inception around the time of the pandemic, when live performances started facing strict restrictions, and most of them had to be moved to confined environments and live streams of controlled shows, DCxPC took it upon their shoulders to record those streams and then publish them as live vinyl records with covers that pay homage to VMLive album covers of the 1990s. Today we bring you yet another live show and yet another DCxPC release of Degenerates of Punk live from Ralph’s Rock Diner.

Calling their sound Ramones-core pop punk, Degenerates of Punk’s life shows are quite simply a blast. Infectious, hectic, and energetic, their breakneck-paced cuts are short and rapid, organic and heartfelt too. The drums are powerful and the yelled vocals are charismatic. Perhaps the live recording sound leaves a little to be desired on this particular cut from DCxPC, but there can be no denying that the stellar performances left the crowd rowdy and quite hyped, as we can clearly hear after each song.

This Degenerates of Punk DCxPC release is a noble effort to catch the lightning of pandemic-era live shows in many, neatly-designed bottles. The recordings successfully translate the energy and intentions behind those performances quite well, if they translate the sound slightly less so. This vinyl is a quirky novelty that will be quite precious for collectors of quirky and limited punk recordings.
