What was the creative process like for this particular album?
Expcept You: Since it's a live record, we pretty much just created the right set list for the show, and then played it the best we could. We got 5 really great takes from the set that we decided to put on the split, and Josh "Danger" Dobbs was really great when it came to the engineering. We had an easy time talking about the mixes and getting them to a place we all loved.
Which song(s) from the album do you think best represents your artistic vision?
Except You: "Thrashcan" is one of our newer songs, and it really represents where we're going on our next releases. It's super thrashy with some fun punk riffs, topped off with pro-party, sex positive anarchist lyrics.
What do you enjoy most about performing live and connecting with your audience?
Except You: Playing live is probably one of our favorite things about being in a band. We love seeing the audience just go crazy when we go crazy, matching our energy in the pit. We love to give people a place to put that energy. Plus, something about a live show just makes everyone feel like they're a part of a community, and we love to help be a force that brings the community together.
Can you talk about any specific themes or motifs that run throughout the album?
Trash World: The songs are pretty straight forward. Trash World is about throw away culture. We hear about this giant island of floating garbage in the ocean and how trash is found in places like the bottom of Marianas Trench or the peak of Mt. Everest. It makes us really disgusted to be human, to be complicit in the giant piles of waste we create. Its something that we’ve thought before the pandemic, along with concern for the rise of fascism in the US, the horrors of industrial agriculture, the failure of our education system, etc.
What has been one of your most favorite memories along the path to making this album?
Trash World: Playing the show was definitely the best part. Everything else was writing emails and messages to coordinate the release. Thankfully, everyone involved has been super cool.
How do you feel this album represents your artistic identity?
Trash World: Making music is therapeutic for us. We know that we’re angry about the current state of the world. We know we want to do something about it but sometimes it feels overwhelming and all you can do is scream and thrash until youre ready to be proactive again. That’s Trash World.
How do you translate the essence and energy of this album in a live performance?
Trash World: This album is a recording of our second live performance as a band. We like to think that we are much tighter, faster, and louder these days but we think this is a really cool piece of our history.
