Cherub Tree Delivers a Fiery Anthem Against a Chauvinistic Society
Hailing from my hometown of DC, Cherub Tree, mix the rage and volatility that the DC hardcore scene is known with what The Washington City Paper referred to as “Bubblegum Grunge”. Their newest singe, “I’m Not Yours, I Never Was” is another salve of Rock and Roe where bands have given their middle finger response to the patriarchy imposed on them by Supreme Court which is merely a tool of the misogynistic system that still believes that women don’t deserve a choice in what happens to their own bodies.
The song was released earlier this year, but this version is the “Anthemic Version” i.e. it’s shorter, faster, louder and filled with even more vehemence which drives home the point of the song even more than the original version while still keeping all the hooks that make it a great fucking song.
Of course for a connoisseur of live music, their live video of the song is even better for me. As the guitar riffs are punctuated by shouts of excitement from the crowd. I can “taste their fist and feel the revolution” for sure!
You can also hear this song and others on their Spotify or check their song out with a bunch of other bangers on my punk playlist
