Self-Torque Release New Single: “No Rest”

My first listen to Self-Torque’s new single was to think this sounds like an early Dischord band if they released pop punk and if they somehow managed to be influenced by Against Me! and Hot Snakes.

It starts with a full and nicely distorted opening riff which drops out during the verse and allows the drums to feed the song and punctuate the vocals. Then the guitars come blazing back for the powerful chorus only to die back down again for the verse. The quiet -loud-quiet-loud isn’t exactly new (I usually attribute it to the Pixies for some reason), but it’s consistently done because when its done well it works well. It helps that the vocals are powerful and rich and that there are just enough rad little guitar riffs and leads all of which are supported by a sure footed and steady rhythm section.

This band is new, so I’m stoked to see what else they release in the future!
