Post Death Soundtrack Releases New Album: Veil Lifter
Post Death Soundtrack’s new album, Veil Lifter, is a mix of metal, grunge and stoner rock into a fucking combination of fuck yeah. The album title reminds me of the thought experiment by philosopher John Rawls in his book, in his book The Theory of Justice, in which people are asked to envision a fair society while being ignorant of who they will be in the society i.e. their gender, social class, race, ethnicity, sexuality, ableness etc. I’m not sure if that’s where this title comes from but even its only tangentially connected to the veil of ignorance, then I’m ready to absorb each song. He’s my take on my favorites:
“The Die is Cast” reminds me of a mix of Alice In Chains and Black Sabbath with it’s thick and heavy guitar distortion and vocal melodies. My favorite part is around the 3 minute mark where the vocals get more brutal and then there is a pause before the song returns with a gentle eerie calm that allows all the energy built up throughout the song to slowly fade out.
“Tide Turns Red” starts with a dope drum pattern which is match by the riffage and some rad vocal phrasing. The chorus is catchy, and I can easily see a crowd of people singing it in unison with the band and each other. The held vocal note around the 2 minute mark is really cool.
“Hammer Come Down” is back with another song that reminds me of the Alice in Chains particularly with the weird groove that just kicks ass and the vocal delivery that harkens to Layne Stanley while also bringing in some more gruff and throaty moments that help add that little something extra. The drum work on this song is so fucking good.
Besides Alice in Chains and Black Sabbath I could see this being perfect for fans of bands like Russian Circles, Windhand, Queens of the Stone Age and YOB.
