Inherit The Ashes’ New Single, “Idolmaker”, is a Black Metal Banger!

Inherit the Ashes may have spawned from the proverbial remains of Rage Of Samedi, but they’ve left behind the doom and sludge metal and moved into classic death and black metal! That doesn’t mean there aren’t any slow parts. Their newest release, “Idolmaker” starts off with a slow build but quickly moves into a thrashtastic banger! I always love metal drumming even though it’s outside of my ability, that’s why I play hardcore punk–it’s fast but simple. This dude is great. Sick timing and rad fills. The chorus where that snare is hitting machine gun like steady blast beats is just killer!

The vocals are the death metal vocals you’d expect, but they mix two different styles one that’s lower with one that’s higher, so it really does a dope job of making it somehow catchy while staying brutal as fuck. Guitar and bass keep a rapid fire sync throughout the whole song. These dudes are tighter than a nun’s chuff.

This is the stuff that I would have spent all Saturday night waiting to hear on MTV in the late 80’s and early 90’s when I would watch Countdown to the Ball, Headbangers Ball and eventually the Mosh Pit. I could see them playing with the best Florida death metal bands: Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary and Deicide! I go to far fewer metal shows nowadays than I do punk or hardcore shows, but I’d drive a solid distance to check these dudes out live!

Speaking of Florida: I gotta say, I’m disappointed, I didn’t get in on their “Florida Man” release back in May. As a former resident of Florida (but remember I’m from DC), I always love a good Florida Man joke, and while I couldn’t understand the lyrics well enough to garner their opinion on Florida Man, I was nonetheless pleased that a band in Germany has jumped on the bashing for Florida Man. This song is even faster and more brutal than “Idolmaker”!

So if you’re looking to bang your head so hard your eyes will roll back into skull or you’re just pissed at life and want to fill your world with the same ferocity you feel or  if you’re actually in a happy joyous mood but still want to listen to fucking raging music while you gently pet your dog or pick flowers–this is the shit for you!
