Teenage Halloween’s New Single: “Takeaway” Yearns for More Than “Survival”

Thanks to Don Giovanni records for releasing the forthcoming dope new album by Teenage Halloween, Till You Return! I haven’t had a chance to scope out the whole album yet, but this first single bring their NJ “power punk” right up to your doorstep and into your world without so much as a “How’s your mother?” i.e. it’s a banger!

Bringing elements of pop punk and emo together in a tight package that hits fast enough to be a solid skateboarding song, this song is instantly catchy, lyrically thoughtful, and musically punchy. I can feel their frustration at lacking agency to act or speak their mind as the singer entolls: “Take away my filter, the words might seem offkilter…Take away my filter and shut your mouth”

It all reminds me of a less acerbic Off With Their Heads and while the lyrics are definitely about pain and anguish, the music makes it feels like there is hope out there, and that there is more to life than just “survival”.
