Roadie Metal Review DCxPC Live Vol. 26 Except You / Trash World Live at Lou’s

EXCEPT YOU AND TRASH WORLD RELEASE MAGNIFICENT LIVE SPLIT!

written by Vitor Franceschini March 5, 2024

Ah, the underground and its treasures… How good this is for music in general, but especially independent music, and coming across a release like this is simply a gift. And, of course, we would like this to happen much more often, as it is something that feeds the soul.

After all, it's not often that you find punk/hardcore bands, which flirt with thrash, crossover, making waves. Or rather, putting on a show, after all, what we have in our hands is simply a live split album titled “DCxPC Live Presents Except You /Trash World Live at Lou's”

The bands are contemporary, literally, formed during the chaotic periods of the pandemic, which may have fueled all their fury. After all, these were not good times and they affected our minds, those of all the inhabitants of the world, both with doubts, fury and a lot of nonconformity. Essential requirements for the type of sound found on this album.

First we need to talk about production. As it is a work captured live, the recording is very good. Well above average, it manages to capture the essence of each band in their set, making everything clear and enhancing the aggressive timbres.

The first part features Except You. Formed by Angela Page (vocals), Arlo Bradley Simonds (guitar), Shawn Ayotte (bass) and Peter Flor (drums), they stand out for bringing punk inspired by punk77, as well as a good pinch crust and classic rock.

With shrill guitars and straightforward cuisine, they deliver riffs that are even better suited to what they propose, with a show of variation from vocalist Angela, who sings, but also knows how to scream, tearing up her voice. There are five compositions, with emphasis on the opening “Curses” and its inspiration in Sex Pistols and “Thrash Can”, which is pure hatred and features an insane interpretation by Angela.

Trash Word, formed by Karina Suze (vocals), Mason Krug (guitar), Doug Lougga (guitar), Emily Emmolation (bass) and Luisafer (drums) has a full-bodied sound, with a more current punk/hardcore, light touches of thrash and at times it even borders on grindcore.

There are six tracks in the set and they are very objective, with tracks lasting no more than two minutes. The killer “Welcome To…”, with its lightning-fast drum introduction, is a delight for heavy lovers, with the other highlight being “The Fuck The Proud Boys” and its well-honed cadence, in addition to the almost thrash opening riff. It is worth noting that Karine sings mostly guttural, without losing her femininity. Excellent split, hard to stop listening to!
