Hand First Release New Single: “Actor”

Brooklyn’s Hand First mix garage rock and post hardcore /post punk into a powerful blend that has me wanting to dance and sing along. I especially dig the chorus when things kind of drop out and the muted guitar and shoutingly sung vocals blend with the steady drums and bass line in a rad ass catchy way.

Lyrically there a couple of lines that stood out to me:

“I spent all my money on a ticket to the present moment" implies that they are making a purposeful choice to live in the now because meaningful experiences in the future have to start by having them now in the present.

"I dance depleted searching for feelings that once were potent" seems to show that they are going through the motions of things that used to bring them joy but now leave them feeling empty.

“I spent all my time in disguise searching for the answer” most likely relates to how we all strive to be something we are not while striving to find out who we are. As a former teacher, I have constantly seen students try to fit into the mold that our system wants them to be when the reality is that there is no singular model and instead of telling them what to be, we should be helping them figure out who they are on the inside.
