Friend Release New Single: “Bored To Death”

Friend is back with another rad ass single. I reviewed “All the Money in the World” back in October, and this song, “Bored to Death” is even better. Lyrically, I feel like it fits right into the supposed “slacker” description people had of my generation (Generation X) that was such a part of the early 1990s. It’s not quite an existential breakthrough, but it’s also sincere and still relatable to people of all generations.

Musically the guitars still bring that fuzzed out over driven grunge/garage rock sound, while the bass and drums move into more unique rhythms that go beyond the normal punk and grunge rock. My favorite part of the song hits at the 2:30 minute mark when everything but the guitar drops out, so they can do some rad riffage and then everyone comes in after a well executed tight ass snare roll. It’s the sort of things that bands often do, but they do it because when it works, it kills, and this fucking slays!

Somehow we did have a band drop off our Philly show earlier this month, and I didn’t get this band on the bill. That will have to be corrected the next time we hit that jawns!
