Modern Shakes Releases New Single: “Icing on the Cake”
Damn. Worst part about running behind on reviews is that this banger has been out for a month, and I’m only now just giving it a good listen. This is some rad uptempo punk rock. Musically I could go for low hanging fruit and say the sound like Banner Pilot since I’m assuming they took their name from a Banner Pilot song, but I’d say more lin the vein of bands like Leatherface or Lawrence Arms with a touch of Hot Water Music. The vocals stick out to me the most because they have an almost laid back feel to them like he’s singing just a little behind the beat or just somehow letting the rest of the music pull the song, and he’s just there pushing it. It really works for me, and I dig it a lot.
And I know I’m a drummer, but the intro drum beat for the whole song is rad a fuck too.
