Field Day “Why” Live 7”

Back on March 13th my band, Call in Dead, was set to play with Field Day at Will’s Pub. I was super stoked. Growing up in DC (yes yes I’m from DC, and I don’t care if you’re sick of hearing about it!), I have always been a fan of Dag Nasty and anyone that knows my old band, The Overprivileged, knows I love the Descendents, so getting to play with members of both bands in a new band that takes the old sounds and makes them fresh was something I was super stoked about. Of course the pandemic canceled that show and countless others.

But what I have on my turntable is a 7” that simultaneously soothes my need for live Field Day while also causes me to feel the pain that I didn’t get to see them two years ago.

The live 7 inch  “Why” has the exact same tracks as the studio 7” of the same title that came out on the same day. I got them both, of course. I may be biased as a live album fan, but I certainly feel the energy and the power on the live album. Not that the studio album doesn’t have energy, but there’s that special “something” that comes from live albums. The band is tight as fuck and the melodies don’t suffer from being performed live. This is a band of pro punks that know how to play with heart and power.

If you can afford the $25 price for a limited edition live 7”, I’d get it. You can hear the studio versions of the four songs on the 7” on Spotify and other streaming services, so get the limited live album and feel the punk energy.

My only gripe is that the label on the 7” is plain white, so I don’t know which side I'm playing when I put it on, and there is no information about where and when it was recorded. To be fair the pictures posted showed that it was a plain white label, so I wasn’t surprised, I just prefer to at least know if it’s side A or B when I put it on. Beyond that it’s a flawless live album that earns a top spot in my live album collection.

The band is playing Melbourne, FL about an hour from me with great local bands like 430 Steps and Fortitude (we are recording a live album for them in April at Uncle Lous) as well as Easy Uzi who I haven’t heard nor seen as of yet. I’ll certainly be there, and I’d encourage anyone nearby to check this shit out.
