2toaroom Releases First Singles: “New Punk Song” and “Nitrous”

Full disclosure: I first met the dudes in 2toaroom this summer in Richmond, VA. I had just walked to my hotel after leaving the final show ever by ann beretta, and I was tired, sweaty and in need of another beer or two before I could fall asleep. Lo and behold, I get off on the wrong floor to see some punk ne'er do wells in hall with a case of cheep bear. I ask if they’d just left the same show I’d been at, but they informed me that had left a basement show they had just played. I smiled for two reasons. One I love basement shows, so I’m stoked that there was one happening, and two, we agreed to a trade of some of the 7” from my label for some of their beers. After the exchange of beer and vinyl, we exchanged contact info, and I suggested they come down to my room to party some more, but alas I passed out and missed their knocking on my door and their calling on my phone. That in and of itself was a fun story. But then, they actually continuing reaching out and I just received two of their songs: “New Punk Song” and “Nitrous”.

So now I’m faced with having to review songs by a band that I know but I’ve never actually heard. When that happens, I always fear that it will suck. Luckily this does not suck.

Production wise its a bit on the raw side, but for someone who thinks that Circle Jerks Group Sex is perfect production, a little rawness is something I like.

Yes I motherfucking chose Group Sex as my point of reference before I saw the one dude in the band wearing the shirt.

“New Punk Song” would have fit right in the movie “Decline of the Western Civilization” right next to Black Flag and the Germs. It’s fast but not thrashpunk. It’s got a good shout alongable chorus. It’s a bit jarring at time with the changes, but that’s also a good thing to me. I’d have love to heard this song live in some dingy ass dark basement.

“Nitrous” has a more garage rock opening riff, but still comes in bringing that full 80’s hardcore punk that I love so much. I personally have no desire to enjoy the “benefits” of nitrous oxide but like “I just wanna sniff some glue” by The Ramones, I’d love to sing along to this. Love the guitar solo on this discordant and wicked.

The stuff has a bit of the NOFX Liberal Animation style going on.

Hopefully these dudes keep in touch, and I get to see them live soon or work with them for other stuff.

Check them out on their Spotify or my Punk Playlist

Follow their IG and their TikTok too.
