Resting B!tch Face Release New Album: “Sounds Gay, I’m In”
Just the name of the band, Resting B!tch Face, and the name of the album, Sounds Gay, I’m in made me so want to love this. Luckily from the moment I hit play, I was fucking loving every damn second of this album. This is protest queercore at it’s best. They need to travel to Florida and hook up with M.A.C.E. and Antagonizör or hit Philly with Soji or Jaelyn. Definitely should get their asses over to Florida for The Fest in Gainesville and fucking stick it up the ass of Gov. Deathsantis whose anti LGBTQ policies and opposition to diversity programs has caused so much untold harm in Florida.
But enough about that. Let’s get to the songs:
1st. “Straight White Man” - So as a straight, white, cisgender, abled, man I get this song, and appreciate it. I’ve lived 48 years being the “default.” If it weren’t for my connection to punk rock and my atheism, I’d be the prototypical historical oppressive antagonist asshole. So when I hear “Not all men are part of the problem. You’re not a nice guy if you gotta point it out. Straight White man are the fucking problem, honestly I think we could do without” I am in total fucking agreement and find myself chanting along and singing along. Musically it’s got an upbeat danceable punk song feel to it that reminds me of what I’d hear from bands like The Members or the Adverts. Gotta say I love the clapping too.
2nd. “Cauterize the Critics” opens with “I’ve got something to say, and you’re gonna fucking listen” which I hope they open every fucking show with. While it sounds absolutely nothing like X-Ray Spex, it brings to mind the classic “Oh Bondage Up Yours”. Some of it reminds me of The Crass mixed with The Lunachicks. That double bass powered drum solo—- tastes like fuck. You know what I mean. And when it continues under the solo it makes me wet in three places in my pants. The song is a political charged attack against Christian patriarchy and misogyny.
3rd. “Good Girl” has a solid 1990’s riotgrrl feel to it like Bratmobile mixed with Bikini Kill . The best part of the double bass is not only how good it sounds but how uncommon it is in a punk song that doesn’t veer into metal. Hey there drummer: I heard that little ding on the bell of the ride cymbal. I see you. This song is catchy as fuck and like the others, hits to the core of sexist bullshit.
4th. “Par for the Course” has a super deep base vocals that is both interesting and fun. The song sounds a little post hardcore like something I could hear on Dischord Records. I have to admit that the song title makes me wonder if they play golf, and if they do, I bet its the funnest golf ever, and I’d actually watch it on TV. The spoken discourse in the bridge really spits the anger and the resentment against the judgement handed down by the rest of society.
5th. “Revolution (Sounds Gay, I’m In)” comes in so fucking strong. It’s like a power metal song, but also like a fucking Broadway anthem that I’d hear in like Wicked mixed with what I’d hear in Rock of Ages. Fucking brilliant. The song title reminds me of Inquisition’s classic album Revolution, I think it’s called Inspiration. The lines: “We will be heard, we will be seen” sum the fuck up what this song and band are all about.
6th. “Bitch Boss” is a cover by Doja Cat which admittedly I only know because my 15-year-old kid is a big Doja Cat fan and went to the show with her mom a couple months back. Their take on it is fucking fuck. It’s goddamn brilliant and demonstrates how little distance there actually is between genres musically especially if you allow the lyrics to pour over you.

So what else can I say? I can say why the fuck is this not out on vinyl? I’d be ordering this bitch right now even if I had to pay overseas shipping! Someone out there release this! Shit if they record a live show, I’ll do one of my Live & Dead releases.
