Dad Release New Single: “Snake Handshake”

Brooklyn based band, Dad, have released a fucking killer new single, “Snake Handshake” which is a mix of sludge metal and post hardcore. As I’m listening I’m hearing elements of Clutch, Drug Church, Fugazi and The Jesus Lizard to name just a few. Maybe even some Big Black.

The song starts off with the drummer laying down a dope groove that brings the fuck. The instrumentation around it is complex and a bit all over the place but in a way that works. The main vocals are gruff without being death metal and not barked at you like a NYHC band. It’s the backing vocals that really draw me in especially the one that’s slightly buried but draws out their vocal phrasing like Fugazi might do.

About 45 seconds in there’s this gnarly scream/growl that mixed with sped up instrumentation that just fucking hits like fuck.

Dig the sick guitar solo over all the tasty ass drum fills too.

It ends on a gentle ambient web of distortion which is just the slow release I needed after getting worked up throughout the whole song.

Give it a listen on Bandcamp and support band by buying the digital download!

You can also listen on their Spotify or on my Metal Playlist, my Punk Playlist and my Indie/Grunge/Posthardcore Playlist

Plus since I’m a live album vinyl record label, here’s a rad video of them:

Make sure to follow them on all their socials and shit: FB, IG, TikTok, and Linktree
