Sunset the Machine Releases New Single: “Owl Scream”
Sunset the Machine is back with another dope space-age, sci-fi infused metal song. I recently reviewed their last single for “Queen of the Monsters”, so I was stoked to see they had another single out. The vocals still have that Living Color feel to it in spots (I was thinking that as I listened, and was pleasantly surprised that I had made the same connection in the last review), but in this case, the music is more psychedelic and prog metal than the previous song. It reminds me a bit of a mix of Hawkwind and Dream Theater with maybe some David Bowie.
There is a pretty extended bridge with effects on either the bass or the guitar—I’m a drummer, so I can’t tell—and while it lasts longer than most songs I listened to, I found myself digging it. I’m sure if I smoked weed or dropped acid, I’d have enjoyed it even more. As it was it reminded me a bit of some of the cool jams you’d hear in a Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath song .
It’s great to have reviewed two songs that while maintaining some consistency, so I know its the same band also has enough diversity that I hear totally different influences.
