Autorub Releases New Single: “Meatball”

Autorub is multi-instrumentalist Michael Corn who somehow manages to blend 90’s grunge like Weezer and Foofighters with touchs of Green Dayish pop punk all on top of a bedding made of older classic bands like The Kinks, The Cars or The Clash while sounding nothing like any of these bands i.e. it’s very original, very fun and full of sarcastic humor.

The opening riff is a straight up solid rock song that would make Kiss cry cause they used to write riffs like this. Then the vocals are clear and crisp and remind me of Matthew Sweet and the big chorus of “Meatball” with crazy harmonies is just infectious.

As a former short-term Floridian (and a history teacher at that), it’s hard not to connect these lyrics with an attack on Ron Desantis, the jerkface governor of Florida. From “they made you just a little too small,” which could attack rumors that he uses lifts in his shows to mentions of banning critical race theory in schools and the infamous “Don’t Say Gay” bill to his idiot fight with Disney it’s all to obvious to anyone that despises him as much as I do.

Is this punk rock? I’d say it’s more punk in spirit than in “sound”, but I’d rather have a punk in the soul song with a unique sound than a generic three-chord song about hating the government, cops or drinking beer, so it’s more than punk enough for me.
