Caroline & The Treats Help Honor the Memory of One of The Greats: Kim Shattuck!
Like many people my age, my first exposure to Kim Shattuck and thus the Muffs was her guest appearance “Lori Meyers” off of NOFX’s Punk in Drublic album. It is my fond memories of that discovery and the following Muffs albums that had led me to break my rule about not reviewing covers songs to review a cover song of the Muff’s “Become Undone” by Caroline and The Treats.
Off of a An International Tribute to the Muffs, it’s just one of 26 bands covering the Muffs and will be out on July 17. All proceeds from the record will go towards Team Shattuck" ALS Foundation.
For those familiar with both bands, you’ll notice that this cover is a little cleaner vocally but is still sung with all the vigor of power as the original—especially the rasply howl that occurs in the last minute.
It’s a toe-tapping cover that’d I’d dig hearing on a recording or live. Once you check it out, and you’ve bought the digital album, you’ll want to check out their other tunes like “Me and My Vibrator”
