Sotah Release New Song: “Division Line”
Back in August I reviewed “Sotah” by Sotah and was touched by the poignance and sadness incorporated into a ska song. Today I’m reviewing their newest song, “Division Line” featuring none other than Dicky Barret of The Might Might Bosstones.
The song has more of a punk feel to it and less ska despite the presence of Dicky. It still has some melancholy mixed in there as the lyrics focus on the difficulties of today’s social and political divisions. It could have been delivered with anger and resentment , but it’s got more of a sad acceptance to it as if they are resigned it to the world as it is. Despite the sense of sadness, there are attempts to urge listeners to push past through this narrative to find their own truth and to work together to make the world better especially during Barret’s vocal run. Those lines during that part could easily be in a 7 Seconds song. In some ways this song could have fit really well as a song on Frank Turner’s album Be More Kind or on Stiff Little Finger’s Guitar and Drum album.
They are in NH so one of these days, I’ll make the trek there way to catch them live or maybe I’ll bring them to the Hudson Valley.
