Pyomai Release New Single: “Weighing on Me”
Pyomai mixes melodic hardcore, post-hardcore and metalcore into it’s own unique blend. It starts off with a emotionally brutal verbal assault accompanied by music which while softer than one might expect with such vocals, still provides a musical frame that adds to the agony felt in the vocals. Musically it ramps up its energy and heaviness as the song proceeds to match the pain being declared.
Lyrically the song seems to be about faking happiness or faking fitting in and how that makes one feel empty and lifeless. The act of trying to be or do what others expect is crushing, but towards the end of the song they seem to demonstrate resilience and pride in the path they are taking even if nobody likes it. And yet, that moment of strength seems fleeting as they continue to doubt their place in the world and feel weighed down by this lack of clarity for their life’s place.
Since these dudes are in Long Island, hopefully I’ll get to see them one day or play a show together in their area or if they want to come to the Hudson Valley.
