Skint Knees Releases New Single: “Cheerleader”

From the start of “Cheerleader” Skint Knees come at you with an in you face fucking questions: “1-2-3-4 How Long Until I’m Called a Whore?” overtop a drum beat that reminds me a bit of the chorus of T.W.A.T. by The Twats. This is a rad fucking mix of street punk and Riotgrrrl without fully falling into either camp.

Musically it reminds me a bit of punk bands Die Cheerleader Die or maybe the NY Relix from 20+ years ago with just a touch of grunge in the instrumentation. Love the multiple shared vocals and layered chants. And that scream at about the half-way mark and again towards the end is fucking great.

Lyrically the song attacks the judgments handed down by assholes against femme/non-binary people, so that certainly fits within the lyrical context of what I’d expect from a band that’s inspired by Riotgrrrl world. And I for one fucking appreciate it, and I’m glad they are out there laying it out for closed minded fucks.

I’ll be checking out the whole EP Bite Back for sure!

If you’re a fan of L7, Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, Babes In Toyland , X-Ray Spex, then I’m sure you’ll dig the fuck out of this too.

You can also check them out on their Spotify or my Punk Playlist

You can also follow them on FB, IG, TikTok and Twitter

Also since I’m a live album vinyl record label, here’s a rad live clip:
