Mr. P. Reviews Dope Music
Marisa Bloom Releases New Single: “Dairy Queen”
Marisa Bloom’s new song, “Dairy Queen” starts off giving off strong rockabilly vibes wrapped in a punk leather jacket.
Femme Revolte Release New Song: “Stereotypes”
Femme Revolte are a riot grrrl punk band from Istanbul, and they’ve followed up their first singe, “Slut Anthem”, with another caustic attack on the patriarchy supported gender stereotypes with “Stereotypes”.
Skint Knees Releases New Single: “Cheerleader”
From the start of “Cheerleader” Skint Knees come at you with an in you face fucking questions: “1-2-3-4 How Long Until I’m Called a Whore?” overtop a drum beat that reminds me a bit of the chorus of T.W.A.T. by The Twats. This is a rad fucking mix of street punk and Riotgrrrl without fully falling into either camp.
Clitter Critters Release New Single: “Sex Magic”
I cut my teeth on the local DC hardcore scene in the early 90’s, so I have a deep affinity for the riot grrrl music of that time. Listening to “Sex Magic” from Clitter Critters puts me right back into that world...
Empty Page Releases New Single: “Cock of the Fifth Year”
Empty Page’s single, “Cock of the Fifth Year”, off their new LP, Imploding, is a kick ass mix of punk and grunge.
Resting B!tch Face Release New Album: “Sounds Gay, I’m In”
Just the name of the band, Resting B!tch Face, and the name of the album, Sounds Gay, I’m in made me so want to love this. Luckily from the moment I hit play, I was fucking loving every damn second of this album. This protest queercore at it’s best.
Lemongrab Release New Single: “Winter Deprimiert”
This is one of those dope ass songs where I can’t say it sounds like A or B, because they meld so many different influences into their own thing.
A.N.J.A.’s New Single “Stimulation” Hits You So Good in The Right Spot, that You’ll Feel Almost a Little Bad about How Good it Feels!
My wife and I couldn’t get a sitter tonight, so we couldn’t travel into the city to see L7. As such, I’m stuck at home, and I’m gonna dig in and enjoy A.N.JA. - a garage rock, grunge, torrent of awesome that reminds me at least a little of L7 and other riot grrrl-esque bands while also throwing in some horror punk and maybe even touches of pyschobilly a la The Cramps.
Cat Valley's New Single, My Body, Off of their new album Bingo Queen, is a Scathing Indictment of Patriarchal Oppression
There is so much rage mixed with self-empowerment in this song. Coming on the heels of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, this song is a banner call to action and defiance in the face of government actions like South Carolina’s newest draconian restriction on a women’s right to choose.
