Despised Mourning Release New Single: “Narcissist”

Damn! Life got busy, so I’m a bit behind on reviews, and that means I’ve missed nearly a month of being able to listen to this fucking banger! Despised Mourning is out with a new EP Hail Nothingness, and I was sent a single, “Narcissist” as a preview, and I’m fucking loving blasting this at 7 am. Great fucking way to start the day.

Oddly enough, I spent most of my time driving yesterday flipping between New Wave of British Heavy metal bands like Saxon to death metal bands like Carcass and Cannibal Corpse instead of my usual punk around the clock. I think I was inspired by a YouTube interview with Antagonizör on Jo Gamel’s Rock Goddess. Regardless this shit is some killer blackened deathcore that would easily have fit into my death metal rotation yesterday and held it’s own against bands I considered some of the best of the genre.

Vocally you have the death metal growl delivered perfectly, but it’s also punctuated with these high pitched screams that remind of grindcore. I know they have guest vocals from Shawn Mills from Dark Surface, Psithurism, Nigh Ungodly, so I’m thinking he’s those rad ass high pitched deliveries.

The song really hits for me about half way through when the dope chugga chugga riffs come in followed by a classic metal guitar solo that reminds me of something I might have heard in early Judas Priest. This is followed by part that just bludgeons you with riffage and double bass pedals before it ends in less than 3 minutes. Fucking sick.

If you dig bands like I’ve already mentioned and/or Lorna Shore, Behemoth, Mental Cruelty, and Cattle Decapitation, then this shit was made for you.

You can listen to and buy the full EP on Bandcamp digitally on and CD (I’d be scooping this up if it was vinyl)

You can also listen on their Spotify or on my Metal Playlist full of bangers!

I love the live music (thus the live album vinyl record label, so I was stoked to find they just posted this song a day ago to their YouTube. Killer performance, just wish the lights were dimmer.

Make sure to follow on them on your social media of choice: IG, FB, Twitter
