WorldSucks: New 7” and Tour!

I first heard of Worldsucks when they reached out to me for an April show in Orlando, Fl for their Aiding and Abetting Abortion Tour. At the time (October 2022) I was still in Florida and often did shows at Uncle Lou’s in Orlando. I told them that I could book them there, but that due to some legal issues Lou’s was in trouble, and I was putting on a two-day benefit to help him. When I mentioned that the benefit included raffle boxes filled with merch from bands from all over the country that had played Lou’s, they quickly sent me some merch to toss in there even though they hadn’t played yet. I could feel the sincere need and desire to be supportive of a venue that always supported bands big and small. So I went from digging their music to respecting them as people.

Not too long afterwards, I’d moved to NY, and soon found myself at the Avalon in Catskills to catch their Aiding and Abetting Abortion Tour kick off show—sometimes life just comes full fucking circle.

Here we are now a little over a year later, and I’ve played a handful of shows with Worldsucks, and am stoked to be playing the final show of their tour at Avalon in Catskills on 5/31 with my band Leave it Behind.

That’s right! Next week Worldsucks leaves for tour again, and not only do they have a killer new 7” they’ll be selling at shows, but the tour also has a goal: Raising money at each stop for regional abortion funds! With so much of the tour happening in southern states that have all but banned access to abortions, their support is definitely needed.

“No/Go!” gives me a distinct early Anthrax feel mixed with hardcore elements and maybe touches of Nuclear Assault and D.R.I.! The fact that they can create such a powerful and aggressive sound as a two-piece is a testament to their song writing and the connection these two have built after years and years of playing together.

Per the band the song is “an incomplete summation of the work of activists, thinkers, writers, theorists whose ideas have spoken to us, illuminated our thinking, and given us hope for the future. Our fingers are pointed not at each other, but to the new path we should all be on.”

This is metal from the heart, filled with soul, and pointed towards making a difference.

“No Fucks Given” hit me in the heart from the get go. I dare you to hear the opening lines and not feel the pain, anguish and also love felt for their friend eulogized in this song. It reminds me of how I still feel every time I listen to Baltimore’s Spikewrench. I usually try not to use too much of the copy sent to me by the band, but in this instance, I feel like anything I have to say would pale in comparison to their own words:

“No Fucks Given is the second complete song WORLDSUCKS wrote about 10 years ago, and it is fitting it will be on the final release we will do as a duo. The song is about Kevin Scully, Mark's brother, more right to say father who shared a brotherly bond with Nick and was a huge part of their lives. The song is a fitting tribute to Kevin and his unflinchingly authentic persona.

The musical style of the song is different from WORLDSUCKS' frantic and fast offerings, with subliminal elements of deep southern rock influence. Kevin has such deep roots in shaping the band. We talk about him regularly and share big laughs and reminisce about the larger-than-life persona he was to us.

After Kevin passed in 2013, he gifted Mark three Gibson Les Pauls, none of which were ever played. The guitars are hanging in his home, and the solo of the song was performed with one of them, a 1960 Sunburst reissue, which was his prized axe. The strings were not changed, and the song was recorded knowing a part of Kevin was going on.

This is the eulogy Mark didn't get to say, and to immortalize Kevin in song is an honor.”

Give these songs a listen on Bandcamp and support them in spreading their music and their message!

You won’t find this on Spotify, and the 7” is only being sold on tour, so make sure you get to their shows listed below:

While this live video from last year’s tour kickoff show includes a bass player from their short lived time as a three-piece band, I think the song and, maybe more importantly, the stage banter caught on this clip really highlights who this band is and what they stand for.

So get your ass out to their shows, support them and their activism. Great music, great people and a great cause! What more do you want?

To support them and their tour, I’m offering to donate any sales (minus shipping) from DCxPC Live’s store to them , so they can donate the money to regional abortion funds.

To make sure I know to donate the money, use the code: Worldsucks at checkout.

The code will give you 10% off, and the rest will go to Worldsucks to support regional abortion funds.
