Nihiloceros Release New Song: “Purgatory (Summer Swim)”

I just reviewed “Penguin Wings” by Nihiloceros a short bit ago, so I was stoked to receive a new song so soon after. “Purgatory (Summer Swim)” is another fucking sick tune.

The song starts with some Paul Westerberg style intro vocals and it seems to switch vocalists into this really melodic, and yet sad, verse vocals before transforming into a catchy as fuck vocal duet in the chorus.

Musically the song is less heavy than the other song. It still has distorted guitars but it’s more like the guitar I might hear when the Dead Milkmen use distortion. The bass and drums lock in and create a well balanced bottom end that fits the song perfectly. I feel a strong pull towards Sebadoh and Sugar which is high praise indeed.

The rad 80’s style synthesizer/keys sounds was a dope little surprise that added a cool component. And I couldn’t help but sing along to the lines “I’m gonna kill you when you’re done”.

Would love to see this band live. Maybe I’ll have to ask them to do a show trade with them coming to the Hudson Valley to play with my punk band with my band going to NYC to play with them.

Make sure to order the vinyl on Bandcamp

You can also check them out on their Spotify and on my Indie Rock Playlist
