Mr. P. Reviews Dope Music
Storm Boy Releases New EP: Superposition!
I reviewed their last EP, With a Gasp That Reached the Sky, and I said they reminded me a bit of Leatherface and Hot Water Music, particularly with the vocals.
Charm School Releases New Single: “Debt Forever”
Charm School’s new single “Debt Forever” reminds me of a dope mix between IDLES and PUP.
Recalculating Releases Single: Based on the Comedy of Ray Romano
Recalculating’s new album, Do You Like to Laugh, opens with their single, “Based on the Comedy of Ray Romano” which immediately reminded me of one of my favorite bands from Baltimore, Landspeedrecord! mixed with Nation of Ulysses mixed with The Talking Heads i.e. good fucking shit!
Wexford Releases New Album: Silent Key
These dudes are probably close to my age or if not they just dig that late 80’s/early 90's postpunk, posthardcore, dischord, grunge, emo scene. Yeah I know that’s a lot of adjectives, but their sound ranges from Hot Water Music, Fugazi, Hum, Quicksand, Dinosaur Jr, Jimmy Eat World, Jane Addiction, and more.
Eastern Pine Release New Album: extended.play
So far as I can tell Eastern Pine is a new Emo/Post Hardcore band from Western, PA who have decided to come out fucking shit up by releasing a killer album right out of the fucking gate!
Dad Release New Single: “Snake Handshake”
Brooklyn based band, Dad, have released a fucking killer new single, “Snake Handshake” which is a mix of sludge metal and post hardcore. As I’m listening I’m hearing elements of Clutch, Drug Church, Fugazi and The Jesus Lizard to name just a few. Maybe even some Big Black.
Vida Releases New Song: “In Absence”
The song is heavy on groove and energy with lots of builds and drops that keep you just on the edge.
Vida Releases New Single: “TMS”
Their bio says they were on hiatus, and based on Bandcamp their last release was nearly ten years ago, so all I can say to that is I’m glad they ended their hiatus cause this is fucking dope shit.
The Serfers Release New Song: “Rat King”
The opening vocals of “Rat King” by The Serfers has that sort of emo punk / pop punk sound followed by some solid distorted guitar riffage that is punctuated with hits on the clean channel that add a cool counterpoint.
Aversions Release New Single: “Mirror Games”
Aversions’ “Mirror Games” is a mix of 80’s hardcore punk a la Husker Du as well as post hardcore like one might have heard on later Dischord Records releases.
