Mr. P. Reviews Dope Music
Motel Portrait Release New Single: “I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOUI LOVE YOU ”
Having played a handful of shows in Frederick, MD 20 years ago or so where the redneck population were generally none-too-happy to see a bunch of punks roll up, it’s great to see that this band is from that area.
City of Pieces Release New Single: “Status Quo”
Hailing from Salem, OR, City of Pieces brings a fresh take on punk infused garage rock.
Just Barely Releases New EP: “An EP”
The moment I heard the vocals from Just Barely, I was taken back to 20+ years ago to a show at the Sidebar in Baltimore where my old band, The Overprivileged, was playing with Osker, that snotty fucking dope punk band that was on Epitaph Records, because that’s exactly what Just Barely sounds like.
Sick Move Releases New Single: “F.Y.P.”
Hailing from one of my favorite cities in the world, Baltimore, Sick Moves comes in swingin’ hard with that melodic hardcore of the early 2000s
Sunset the Machine Releases New Single: “Owl Scream”
Sunset the Machine is back with another dope space-age, sci-fi infused metal song. I recently reviewed their last single for “Queen of the Monsters”, so I was stoked to see they had another single out.
The Ugly Cowboys Releases: “Life Sucks, Do Drugs”
Despite the fact that I didn’t have a "cheap vodka & bong rips" period during college and my general lack of drug experience, I find this to be one catchy ass fucking song.
Der Butterwegge Released New Single: “Kein Bock”
Der Butterwegge bring me that skacore like I grew up skanking to in the 1990’s with the blasting horns, skankable verses, and big distorted guitar punk choruses.
Mike and the Nerve Released a New Single: “Grace”
Having reviewed their previous single “Fool’s Gold, and False Idols”, I was stoked to see I was gonna get a chance to review their newest song. And what a fucking great song it is.
MOFGY Releases New Single: “Whoop-De-Doo”
MOFGY’s new single, “Whoop-De-Doo” has a folk sound with a lo-fi style recording that reminds me of Pete Seeger or Woodie Guthrie with a punk soul.
Dynasty Four Releases New Single: “Rome’s Bounty”
From the opening riff this song had me hooked. I love the interplay between the guitar riff and the bassline, and it’s fucking rad the way the song just ends abruptly right as I’m really digging it ‘cause it makes me want to put it on constant repeat to feed my need.
The Flatnoise Releases New Single: “Living in the Front Row”
I reviewed their single “Misunderstood” a few weeks ago, so I was stoked to see hear this new tune.
Nolen & Friends Release New Single: “Sailboat Song”
What is the line between folk music and folk punk? Does it matter? Folk often has told stories that are true to life and punk has always been about sharing what you feel to the fullest. So much like I’ve argued that a lot of hip hop is as punk as the most circle pit worthy song, so is so much of recent folk music that fits the punk ethos if not the standardized sound.
Blind Adam & The Federal League Releases New Single: “Cold Dead Hands”
This past July I received a text from my buddy Lou from Albany’s The Lurking Class telling me that I had to go see this band called Blind Adam & The Federal League at this DIY venue in Kingston, NY. He had just played with them a day or so earlier, and he was raving about them. A new DIY space? A new band? Plus Matt Pless? Fuck yeah!
Hurrican Holly Releases New Album: “Screaming the Storm Out”
So I came of age in the early 1990’s and while Hurricane Holly doesn’t specifically sound like Jewel, Paula Cole nor Ani Difranco, I could still see them all playing a show together.
Shiny Red Nothing Release New Single: “Baited Breath”
Mixing elements of punk, grunge, power pop and even some surf this band reminds me of the Undertones mixed with The Vaselines with maybe a touch of the Pixies.
Dreaded Laramie Release New Single: “Break Up Songs”
Call them power pop, call them pop punk, just make sure you call them fucking awesome too.
Pink Cobras Release New Single: “Midnight Man”
Pink Cobras bring that double picked guitar skate punk sound with dope ass walking basslines and energetic punk rock drums all layered with solid punk vocals…
Sometime Last Night Releases New Single: “Bad Names”
You dig that early 2000’s emo pop punk a la Fallout Boy or New Found Glory with a touch of Blink 182?
Goro Releases New Single: “Tomorrow Never Comes”
Mixing 80’s SoCal punk with 80’s NYC Youth Crew and just a touch of metal, Ecuador’s Goro are just too much fucking fun to listen to.
The Würmen Release New EP: “Vas Deferens”
I reviewed one track off this Würmen EP back in early November: The Würmen Release New Single: “Cognitive Dissonance” and that one song had already made me a fan, and this EP has only strengthened that disposition.
