Mr. P. Reviews Dope Music
Jersey Calling Releases New Single: “Projections”
I’ve reviewed songs by Jersey Calling several times in the past including their album Parasocial Security, and I’ve always dug their 90’s pop punk influenced slabs of rock, and this new song, “Projections” is no different.
King Tide Releases New Song: “Jenny”
From start to finish King Tide’s new song “Jenny” off their album “Down with the Ship” reminds me of a song I would have heard on that first Fat Music for Fat People comp
Spike Polite & Sewage Release New Song: “Florida”
With a name like Spike Polite & Sewage, I could assume there would be some amount of humor in their lyrics—which proved correct.
Lsyne Releases New Single: FRÅ SOGN!
Lysne’s new song, “FRÅ SOGN!”, is a solid as fuck pop punk song.
Me, Grimlock Releases New Single: “Winning Streak”
All and all this is a solid as fuck first single by this new band from Seattle, and I’m stoked to hear what comes next.
Poland’s Abort! Deport Releases New Song: “Twist Pack”
From the opening vocals of this Abort! Deport’s new song, “Twist Pack”, I immediately thought of Fat Mike and early NOFX. This is some rad ass 90’s style skate punk with a bit more rawness that helps set it apart.
Human Dinosaur Machine Releases New Single: “Goonbox”
“Goonbox” is another fucking killer tune by Human Dinosaur Machine! I fucking loved their last single “Ventilator” and this one is no less of a banger!
Outer Control Releases New Single: “Failing At It All”
Fast, melodic skate punk with just a touch of metal influence.
Buckled Release New Single: “Divine Comedy”
Buckled’s new single, “Divine Comedy”, is cocktail infused skate punk classic. I could hear this shit on any early to mid 90’s comp put out by Fat or Epitaph.
Shower Days Releases New Single: “Walk Away”
I don’t normally do reviews for one man bands where they play everything. They just don’t normally have the feel of full band where people play off each other and connect together to make something unique, but something about this song just worked for me.
Bayline Releases New Single: “Elephant”
Bayline remind me of a mix between The Offspring and AFI when they were both on Nitro records i.e. an aggressive and yet melodic version of SoCal skate punk.
Reactor 7 Releases New Single: “Falso Profeta”
This is some dope ass skate punk from Mexico! They didn’t include a lyric sheet for me to translate, so I have no idea what they are singing about, but that’s part of the beauty of music in general and punk music in specific—I rarely have to understand all the words to get the emotion and feeling the song is presenting.
Just Barely Releases New EP: “An EP”
The moment I heard the vocals from Just Barely, I was taken back to 20+ years ago to a show at the Sidebar in Baltimore where my old band, The Overprivileged, was playing with Osker, that snotty fucking dope punk band that was on Epitaph Records, because that’s exactly what Just Barely sounds like.
Restroyer Releases New Single: “Parasite”
Restroyer’s opening riff to “Parasite” made me think of Strung Out right off the bat.
The Sons of James Release New Single: “Boswell”
I reviewed “All They Told You” for the The Sons of James back in August, and I’m stoked to check out their new single!
This song starts with a rad tom based drum beat and then punchy but melodic vocals and guitar feedback come in and build up until it kicks into a full punk rock anthem.
Hidden Horizons Release New Single: “The Dark Crushing on Me”
Hidden Horizons is a “pop punk” and “skate punk” band from VA and VT. Their new single, “The Dark Crushing on Me” has some of that gothicy punk sound of AFI as well as old school Offspring — like the stuff they did when they were still on Nitro or Epitaph.
This Sinking Ship’s New Single “Epicurean Paradox” is Out Now!
This Australian punk band brings smooth harmonies and melodies in a fast skate punk rock style that instantly catchy and easy to sing along with.
The Sons of James Decry The “Truths” of Society’s Expectations of What it Means to Be A Successful Person
In the wake of too many students graduating with horrific debt because they were told to follow the rules and go to school and all would work out, this song rings true to the time and captures the moment.
The Snorts Have Released a New Kickass Single: “Heart Attack”
I remember the first time a girlfriend had a panic attack back in the mid-1990’s. Nobody knew what that shit was. We totally thought it was a heart attack but doctors could find nothing wrong. It took us a while to figure out it was a panic attack. That shit was scary as fuck,! This song is rad as fuck!
