Mr. P. Reviews Dope Music
Fault Cognitions Releases New Single: “Sad Sack”
I’m loving “Sad Sack” by Fault Cognitions. Raw pop punk? Is that a thing? If it wasn’t, then it is now! I can’t tell if the rawness is a byproduct of the production or just the way the songs are played, but whichever it is, I dig the fuck out of it
Distorted Waves Relases New Song: “Imprisonment”
Distorted Waves new song, “Imprisonment”, starts more as a mid-tempo reggae tune and then moves about halfway through into a much more fast paced, more ska-ish song
Rocket Steadman Release New Single: “Kitchen Light”
So what do we have here? An eight-piece ska band with dope horn melodies played with punk intensity?
Obsidian’s “Born Trouble” is a Fucking Banger!
And that blazing guitar solo makes me wet in three places in my pants.
Get Wrecked Releases New Single: Get Shreked and Die Tryin'
Get Wrecked’s new single, “Get Shreked and Die Tryin'“ is a fucking ripper of a crossover song.
Buckled Releases New Song: “Clickbait”
I reviewed “Divine Comedy” by Buckle a little bit ago, so I was stoked to get this new song, “Clickbait” where they fight the seemingly never ending infestation of assclowns talking shit online.
Busted Radio Release New Album: “Metaphor for Life”
This is punk rock for punk rock fans. No sub genres. It’s not crust punk, it’s not pop punk, it’s not skate punk, it’s not thrash punk, it’s punk that blends the 70’s British punk to the 80’s punk that began to emerge as hardcore. Most of all it’s fucking dope ass fucking good punk.
Rebels in Stereo Release New Album: “Smear Campaign”
Rebels in Stereo were one of the first bands I ever reviewed (Check out my past review of Lace of Steel), so I was stoked to get notice from them about their new album, Smear Campaign.’
Miracle Blood Releases New Single: “Lobotomizer”
As their tagline says, Miracle Blood is gnarly noise punk for the weird at heart. Their new song, “Lobotomizer” is aptly named as my brain feels torn to pieces listening to this.
Broke Even Releases Two New Singles: “Turn the Volume Down” and “You Dying”
Broke Even musically reminds me like some fucked up version of Atom and His Package, Dead Milkmen and They Might Be Giants.
Ugly Cowboys Release New Song: “I Wanna Make You Cum”
If the 8th grader in you smiles at the word cum, but the more mature person in you recognizes that the song is also an existential cry to find pleasure in a world gone made, then this song is for you.
Truth Grip Releases New Single: “Fiction”
I’m a little behind on my reviews since “Fiction” by Truth Grip came out two months ago, but the loss is mine since this is a killer tune.
Stay Idle Releases New Song: “The Algorhythm”
Stay Idle’s new song “The Algorhythm” mixes the mainstream sounds of bands like Sum 41 with more unique sounds of bands like Refused into a garage punk track for all to enjoy.
Sick Move Release New Single: “Hey Ma”
Sick Move are back with another killer song, “Hey Ma” and it fucking rips. It’s got the intensity of Kid Dynamite or Paint it Black and reminds me a bit of the old Baltimore band, Ruiner, or the old DC band, Crispus Attucks.
GROTTONAUT Releases New Single: “Because”
GROTTONAUT’s new single, “Because”, opens with sticks on the rim of the snare and then two staccato guitar riffs that reminds me of the opening to Offspring’s “Come out and Play” but that is where the similarity between these two bands ends.
Nina’s Yard Party Releases 1st Single: “Boom Beat Your Heart”
I love it when I hear a song, and I just dig it without any background on the band.
Lemongrab Release New Single: “Winter Deprimiert”
This is one of those dope ass songs where I can’t say it sounds like A or B, because they meld so many different influences into their own thing.
The Sons of James Release New Single: “Against My Will”
“Against My Will” by The Sons of James follows the musical path in the two previous singles I reviewed “Boswell” and “All They Told You” i.e. a mix of Pennywise, No Use for a Name and other Fat/Epitaph bands and would have been a standout band on either label’s well known compilations.
Coma Beach Releases New Single: “Extreme Masochist”
My love for this band is not a secret. I’ve written two reviews on past songs “Jesus’s Tears” and “Another Song” in which I’ve compared the vocalist to Leatherface or The Beltones with occasional backing vocals akin to the snotty 70’s British punk band.
Smile Deadly Releases New Single: “Forgiven Me”
Smile Deadly plays punk rock that speaks to their name.
