Fuck the Bare Minimum, This Band Goes for ALL!

Hailing from Toronto Canada, Bare Minimum has released a new track off their EP Uncaged which features songs about Nicholas Cage with each one related to a specific movie. I just finished watching the dope animated video for National Treasure, and even if I weren’t a Nick Cage fan and a social studies teacher, I would have loved the fuck out of this.

You Had Me at “Fuck Florida”!

Dominic Delaney follows that punk troubadour a la Frank Turner, Billy Bragg, Tim Barry, Jacob -Danielsen-Moore, Sticky Steve and more. As a former captive of Florida for 15 years who managed to escape to NY, I can fully endorse his sentiment in the title if not his final admission that he’s actually a Floridian…something I was never able to accept.

What if Jello Biafra fronted a 70’s British Punk Band?

What if Jello Biafra fronted a 70’s British Punk Band?

That’s what I hear when I listen to, “Black Friar,” the new single by Shop Talk off their album, The Offering. It’s got the sound of bands like The Adverts, The Jam or maybe even The Members, but the vocals have that vibrato quality reminiscent of Jello’s. This is the sort of song that fans of garage rock, punk rock, and indie rock should all be able to enjoy together.

The Snorts Have Released a New Kickass Single: “Heart Attack”

I remember the first time a girlfriend had a panic attack back in the mid-1990’s. Nobody knew what that shit was. We totally thought it was a heart attack but doctors could find nothing wrong. It took us a while to figure out it was a panic attack. That shit was scary as fuck,! This song is rad as fuck!

If Beers, Blunts, and Bloody Pits are You Thing, then are The Errorists!

If the song title, “Wasted and Stupid”, doesn’t key you into that this band likes to party, then a brief listen to their music damn as well should. It’s got the NY hardcore style vocals, but it’s also got the punk rock fun and grime mixed together. I could see these dudes rocking the state with Murphy’s Law, Endangered Feces, and Two Man Advantage for sure!

Nobro’s New Single Has a Singular Message: “Let’s Do Drugs”

So I totally dig this song despite being drug free beyond alcohol and caffeine. I even live in Woodstock, NY, and I don’t smoke weed. Lame I know. That being said this song just rips. I don’t know if they mean it or if they are just tonuge and cheeking it, and I don’t really care. A good song is a good song and this is a damn good song.

Discord Theory Hid From Me Right in Plain Sight: But I See You Now!

Hailing from Tampa this band has been bringing the post hardcore mixed with pop punk and more to the west coast of Florida for years. As many of you know I just moved away from Orlando, Fl after 15 years, so I wasn’t there when my buds at Montgomery Drive booked them at Will’s Pub in July. The real question is why I haven’t seen them before I left? Were they not in Orlando sooner? Did I know go to Tampa enough? Why weren’t they on Florida Underground Fest? They damn well should be next year!

Caroline & The Treats Help Honor the Memory of One of The Greats: Kim Shattuck!

Like many people my age, my first exposure to Kim Shattuck and thus the Muffs was her guest appearance “Lori Meyers” off of NOFX’s Punk in Drublic album. It is my fond memories of that discovery and the following Muffs albums that had led me to break my rule about not reviewing covers songs to review a cover song of the Muff’s “Become Undone” by Caroline and The Treats.

Fuzzy Dysfunction’s “Doppler Effect” May Be About Self Doubt, But There Is No Doubting This Song Rocks!

Fuzzy Dysfunction’s “Doppler Effect” May Be About Self Doubt, But There Is No Doubting This Song Rocks!

The song starts off with some straight forward fast and catchy punk rock with cleanish melodic vocals. Right before the chorus there are some group harmonized vocals echoing the last sylabull of the previous word “enemy” which sounds like “me” “me” and “me” which is indicative of this songs introspective nature.

Literally Anything But Bros are NOT Your Fucking Friends!

Hailing from Turkey, this riotgrrrl-esque punk band brings it hard and in your face! Right from the bat, I love the band name and it’s slap in the face of bro-culture. Then the song itself reminded me of a time I told a co-worker that we weren’t friends because we were merely work acquaintances and the minute we stopped working together we’d never speak to each other.

Teenage Halloween’s New Single: “Takeaway” Yearns for More Than “Survival”

Thanks to Don Giovanni records for releasing the dope new album by Teenage Halloween, Till You Return! I haven’t had a chance to scope out the whole album yet, but this first single bring their NJ “power punk” right up to your doorstep and into your world without so much as a “How’s your mother?” i.e. it’s a banger!

The Ivy League Want You To “Be Anything You Need” and Get “Everything You Ever Wanted”

Have you ever felt alone? Like you didn’t belong? Like no matter how hard you tried, you’d never find those people that get you? You’d need to spend your whole life code switching to fit in with others at school, work or even in social situations? Then the Ivy League is for you. They want you to join their family. Not in a cultish way, in a we’ve all been there before, and we all want one thing in life–to be accepted for who we are with all of our flaws and our nooks and crannies out in the open. Their new EP, Everything I Ever Wanted, opens with their title track and lays down some indie/emo-punk posicore that would fit in at any diy show full of disaffected youth or adults with lyrics like “We can be anything we need, welcome to the Ivy League. Just to be a part of this is all I ever wanted” The this being the place that we can call "home". This is literally felt when I discovered punk rock. It wasn’t just a third place between home and school/work, it was my actual home–it was a collection of misfits that knew how to accept me for who I was and not what they expected of me.
