Mr. P. Reviews Dope Music
The Deflators “Liar, Liar” is a Ramonescore Classic!
As expected this song has a dope Ramonescore feel while also being unique with some new wave aspects that do not prevent it from rocking.
You Had Me at “Fuck Florida”!
Dominic Delaney follows that punk troubadour a la Frank Turner, Billy Bragg, Tim Barry, Jacob -Danielsen-Moore, Sticky Steve and more. As a former captive of Florida for 15 years who managed to escape to NY, I can fully endorse his sentiment in the title if not his final admission that he’s actually a Floridian…something I was never able to accept.
The Sons of James Decry The “Truths” of Society’s Expectations of What it Means to Be A Successful Person
In the wake of too many students graduating with horrific debt because they were told to follow the rules and go to school and all would work out, this song rings true to the time and captures the moment.
The Shake Question The Efficacy of Gods
As always River Monster Records never fails to release that good shit! The new single, “Dear God” by Florida’s The Shake is a fucking solid ass pop punk tune. It’s so good I even forgive it for being longer than two minutes…damn thing is nearly five fucking minutes!
What if Jello Biafra fronted a 70’s British Punk Band?
That’s what I hear when I listen to, “Black Friar,” the new single by Shop Talk off their album, The Offering. It’s got the sound of bands like The Adverts, The Jam or maybe even The Members, but the vocals have that vibrato quality reminiscent of Jello’s. This is the sort of song that fans of garage rock, punk rock, and indie rock should all be able to enjoy together.
The Snorts Have Released a New Kickass Single: “Heart Attack”
I remember the first time a girlfriend had a panic attack back in the mid-1990’s. Nobody knew what that shit was. We totally thought it was a heart attack but doctors could find nothing wrong. It took us a while to figure out it was a panic attack. That shit was scary as fuck,! This song is rad as fuck!
Phantom Bay’s Newest Single Is “Airtight” in Name and Quality!
When I toured Germany twenty plus years ago, I played with a lot of sick bands, but these dudes would have been killer to play with.
If Beers, Blunts, and Bloody Pits are You Thing, then are The Errorists!
If the song title, “Wasted and Stupid”, doesn’t key you into that this band likes to party, then a brief listen to their music damn as well should. It’s got the NY hardcore style vocals, but it’s also got the punk rock fun and grime mixed together. I could see these dudes rocking the state with Murphy’s Law, Endangered Feces, and Two Man Advantage for sure!
Escape Velocity Provide a Fast, Melodic Does of Hardcore Mixed Metal and Pop Punk
In specific, their song “Violence and Vanity” has the sound of a band that could have been on early Fat Wreck Chords comps with bands like No Use For A Name, Lagwagon or Strung Out that were fast paced pop punk with elements of metal that just made them sick to skate board to.
Polluted Womb Feel Your Deep Seated Pain
This is some gnarly ass thrashtastic music! Mixing hardcore, punk, dbeat, and grindcore! FFO of Disrupt, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, and ACxDC!
Nobro’s New Single Has a Singular Message: “Let’s Do Drugs”
So I totally dig this song despite being drug free beyond alcohol and caffeine. I even live in Woodstock, NY, and I don’t smoke weed. Lame I know. That being said this song just rips. I don’t know if they mean it or if they are just tonuge and cheeking it, and I don’t really care. A good song is a good song and this is a damn good song.
Discord Theory Hid From Me Right in Plain Sight: But I See You Now!
Hailing from Tampa this band has been bringing the post hardcore mixed with pop punk and more to the west coast of Florida for years. As many of you know I just moved away from Orlando, Fl after 15 years, so I wasn’t there when my buds at Montgomery Drive booked them at Will’s Pub in July. The real question is why I haven’t seen them before I left? Were they not in Orlando sooner? Did I know go to Tampa enough? Why weren’t they on Florida Underground Fest? They damn well should be next year!
Caroline & The Treats Help Honor the Memory of One of The Greats: Kim Shattuck!
Like many people my age, my first exposure to Kim Shattuck and thus the Muffs was her guest appearance “Lori Meyers” off of NOFX’s Punk in Drublic album. It is my fond memories of that discovery and the following Muffs albums that had led me to break my rule about not reviewing covers songs to review a cover song of the Muff’s “Become Undone” by Caroline and The Treats.
Fuzzy Dysfunction’s “Doppler Effect” May Be About Self Doubt, But There Is No Doubting This Song Rocks!
The song starts off with some straight forward fast and catchy punk rock with cleanish melodic vocals. Right before the chorus there are some group harmonized vocals echoing the last sylabull of the previous word “enemy” which sounds like “me” “me” and “me” which is indicative of this songs introspective nature.
Literally Anything But Bros are NOT Your Fucking Friends!
Hailing from Turkey, this riotgrrrl-esque punk band brings it hard and in your face! Right from the bat, I love the band name and it’s slap in the face of bro-culture. Then the song itself reminded me of a time I told a co-worker that we weren’t friends because we were merely work acquaintances and the minute we stopped working together we’d never speak to each other.
Teenage Halloween’s New Single: “Takeaway” Yearns for More Than “Survival”
Thanks to Don Giovanni records for releasing the dope new album by Teenage Halloween, Till You Return! I haven’t had a chance to scope out the whole album yet, but this first single bring their NJ “power punk” right up to your doorstep and into your world without so much as a “How’s your mother?” i.e. it’s a banger!
1983’s New Album, Ne3, is The Banger Release of the Summer!
I first saw 1983 at Bloodfest 2 in 2019 at Uncle Lou’s put on by Violent Breed Records. They were totally rad dudes, and put on a sick show filled with aggressive 80’s style hardcore. I’d seen them off and on over the years with the final time being at the Ft. Pierce Punk Rock Flea Market this last fall. And if I dug them before, I was literally wet in three places for them now. Their new bassist and drummer just took their shit to the next fucking level. So it was with great excitement that I checked out their newest release, Ne3, this last week.
Estonia’s Feel Hope Harkens Back to the Hardcore of the Late 1990s
Estonian hardcore punk at it’s best….
Your Best Nightmare is the Kind of Nightmare that I’d Wish on My Kids
I still remember being stoked to see Eddie Vedder on his ukulele tour, and then I got sick and couldn’t make the show. From that point on ukulele went deep into the recesses of my mental filing cabinet of short lived DIY musical styles. Since then I have recorded a great horror punk band in Florida that uses a ukulele, Swear Wolf, with a live album pending, discovered The ukulele punk rock of the Margaret Hooligans from Philly and now found out about Your Best Nightmare who use horror themes, punk rock soul and a ukulele to make some damn fine music.
Simesky+Fritch’s Newest Singles Have Me Wanting to Dance All Night at The Local Goth Bar!
The moment I heard Simesky + Fritch’s newest single, “Back and Down Again”, I was immediately taken back to 1991 when I was all of 15. My boss at Roy Rogers, Mr. Feldt (The one and only time in my life, I couldn’t call a boss by their first name–kinda like Mr. Burns in the Simpsons), took me and my girlfriend to see Depeche Mode and The The. I was a metal head who was slowly becoming a hardcore punk, but I had a soft spot for gothic dance music especially with that 80’s New Wave sound. In other words, that soft spot went all gooey when I heard this song as well as the other song they shared, “Colour Running Away”.
