Mr. P. Reviews Dope Music
Take Out the Blade Releases New Single, “Lowlife (Worthless)”
Take Out the Blade’s first single, “Lowlife (Worthless)”, is my kind of metal with lots of 80’s style thrash with some more 90’s slow riffage thrown in to mix it up.
Rocket Steadman Release New Single, “Lockdown”
Right on the heels of their previous single that I reviewed, “Kitchen Light”, Rocket Steadman are back with a new skalicious single, “Lockdown” both of which are off their forthcoming album And We Have Lift Off and makes me what to skank and pick it up as much as the last one!
Drops Releases New Single, “Pressure” off of new EP, Feel It!
Drops from France plays hardcore in the vein of Turnstile, Backtrack, Trapped Under Ice, Terror. Their “Pressure” is off their new EP, Feel It, that came out a few weeks ago.
Monte Releases New Single: “Dysfunctional Mess”
Monte’s new song, “Dysfunctional Mess” blends grunge, punk and metal into a rad ass fucking single about pulling your shit together and finding a way come out of a band relationship better than you were when you went in. Yeah you fucked me up, but I came back better, so fuck you right back.
Sorry Sweetheart Release New Single: “Sweatpants (Are All That Fit Me Right Now)”
Sorry Sweatheart’s new single “Sweatpants (Are All That Fit Me Right Now)” bring that 1990’s ska punk that reminds me mostly of bands like Reel Big Fish particularly with the ways the horns are incorporated and the guitar tone.
Girth Brooks Release New Single: Cajun Crust
In their own words Girth Brooks is a pizza themed metal band who write songs about pizza. I’m a little sad that I didn’t find them dressed up like Pizza the Hut in any of their pictures on IG, but I did appreciate the pizza face masks.
Asfixia Social Release New Single: Traffic Lights w/ Guest Vocals from D.O.A.’s Joey Shithead!
Asfixia Social bring it all to the table and fucking let it rip with a mix of ska, rap, hardcore, punk, funk, dub all flavored with the Brazilian music of their country. And if that weren’t enough, “Traffic Lights” even has some rad ass guest vocals from Joey Shithead from D.O.A. one of my favorite hardcore punk bands!
Whippets Release New Single: “Ice”
Whippets are a post punk band whose sound somewhere along the lines of themselves though I can tell they are likely fans of Fugazi, Jesus Lizard and GBV which tells you absolutely nothing still. I know. Let me try to narrow it down for you.
Sickrecy Releases New EP: Split with Barren
Where to start? My first thought when I heard a song from Sickrecy was of Magrudergrind and Assholeparade, but after listening to the full EP, Split with Barren, I realized that there is so much more than grindcore happening here.
Something Wicked Release Two Singles: “Stop Reproducing” and “Electric” ahead of their full length release on 4/26!
In the last month of so, Something Wicked has released to dope ass singles: “Stop Reproducing” and “Electric”, and if these two tracks are any indication, then their forthcoming album, Deceased, set to release on 4/26 is going to be a banger!
Last Penance Releases New Single: “Tired Veins”
The song has so many dope thrashtastic parts that really hit into my love of 80’s thrash metal.
Latch Releases New Single: “Buzzkill”
I did a review of a previous Latch song, “Oath Breaker”, where I insinuated that they could have been on the classic comp This is Boston…Not LA and held their own against The Freeze and Gang Green. This new song, “Buzzkill” is off their new EP - Trapped in this Flesh and keeps the hardcore while demonstrating a little bit more of the punk in hardcore punk.
Commodity Releases New Single: “Fell from the Sun”
My first thought is that I could be back in DC at St. Andrews Church listening to some late 1990’s early 2000’s melodic hardcore and youth crew bands.
Empty Page Releases New Single: “Cock of the Fifth Year”
Empty Page’s single, “Cock of the Fifth Year”, off their new LP, Imploding, is a kick ass mix of punk and grunge.
Fracture Type Release New Single: “Strafe”
Fracture Type sent me “Strafe” off their new EP Make Your Brain A Better Place To Live and this is some killer shit. It’s got influences from hardcore, metal, early emo and more happening here. In just over 3 minutes there are so many elements happening here, I feel like it’s the periodic table of aggressive music.
Despised Mourning Release New Single: “Narcissist”
Damn! Life got busy, so I’m a bit behind on reviews, and that means I’ve missed nearly a month of being able to listen to this fucking banger! Despised Mourning is out with a new EP Hail Nothingness, and I was sent a single, “Narcissist” as a preview, and I’m fucking loving blasting this at 7 am. Great fucking way to start the day.
Deer Park Avenue Releases New Single: “Queen of Disaster”
Deer Park Avenue’s newest single, “Queen of Disaster”, skirts that line between indie pop punk and mainstream pop so effectively that I could see why they are a perfect fit for festivals like SXSW.
Pink Suits Releases New Single: “Are You Gay Yet?”
I’ve already reviewed “C.O.F.F.E.E.” and “Refuse the Rules” by Pink Suits, so I was stoked to get their new single, “Are You Gay Yet?”.
Che Arthur Releases New Single: “Sliver”
Some of you may know Che Arthur from their time in Pink Avalanche or Atomicpocketknife, if so when you listen to their new single, “Sliver”, you’ll recognize that distinct timber that is characteristic of their voice, but it will be accompanied by music that is more aggressive and posthardcore than in previous projects.
Edging Release New Single: “Fuck You Sir”
There is so much I love about Edging. I am totally down with their protopunk art school saxophone laden sonic experience.
